Building Lasting Prosperity with Cross Purpose CEO Jason Janz

“We don’t have a homeless problem, we have a compassion problem”
In this new episode, we interview Jason Janz, founding pastor of Providence Bible Church and co-founder/CEO of Cross Purpose, a Denver nonprofit serving about 3,000 families annually to address economic, relational, and spiritual poverty. Jason shares how growing up in poverty shaped his empathy and led him to pursue a more action-oriented, holistic approach to discipleship and neighborhood renewal, including navigating gentrification and building reciprocal relationships that avoid paternalism.
He describes Cross Purpose’s outcomes-based model focused on job placement, bridging social capital, healing core wounds, and ultimately wealth-building—moving from relief to development and “owning the pond.” We also discuss practical ways churches and families can engage poverty wisely, the challenges of nonprofit leadership, health and mental illness gaps, and Jason’s forthcoming book, Together We Climb.
